ABOUT.

For Jono, hailing from the majestic coast of Cape Breton has granted him an eye for beauty, and a penchant for storytelling. His youth was self-documented in the form of 35mm stills and Super 8 shorts. In his twenties, he traveled the world as a musician, a documentarian, as well as a commercial director with Slim Pictures in LA, OPC in Toronto, and MindsEye in London.

He has since won multiple awards for his commercial work including a Young Director Award at the 2015 Cannes Lions for his Canadian Film Festival spots, a Bronze Lion at the 2014 Cannes Lions for 'ExFEARiential', a 2015 Webby for his McDonald’s Fry Defender spot, and a 2015 Bessie for his Big Brothers Vancouver spots (to name a few). He has also directed ads for Kit Kat and Jolly Rancher, starring the likes of Chance the Rapper, Joel Embiid, and Todd Gurley.

His experimental documentary 'Covered' was selected to play at the ImagineNATIVE Film Festival 2014 (where it took home Best Experimental Short), The Whistler International Film Festival, and Short Cuts: Doc Days of Summer at the TIFF Lightbox (and many more).

'The Dentist', Hunter's surrealist short film, garnered the Best New Talent award at the 2015 INDIE FILM TO short Festival and was selected to screen at the 2014 Dances With Films Festival, The Montreal Underground Film Festival, The Dawson City International Short Film Festival, and the 2013 London International film festival where it was nominated for best short and best supporting actor for Chris Haralampous; The Dentist also took home Best Canadian Film at the 2014 VideoDrunk Film Festival.

Since then, his film Modern Classic which he co-wrote, directed, and starred in won Best First Feature at the 2017 Canadian Film Festival; and his straight8 film, Bad Timeline 2018-00222 won silver in the 2018 online shootout. When he's not making people laugh, he's touring with one of his punk rock bands.
